Getting Started

The decision to meet with a family law attorney is a very personal and important one to make.  It is a big step to take whether you are just thinking about your options or you are far along in the process.  It can also feel a little bit overwhelming. We understand that.

We want you to keep in mind that your initial meeting is a conversation.  We’re there to learn about you and your family, about what’s important to you, and about your concerns and goals. You get to ask any questions you want and discuss a range of options and possibilities.  You get to ask what the law provides and how other couples or families typically deal with a similar situation. Everything we talk about is also protected by the attorney-client privilege regardless of whether you retain our firm.

Toward the end of the initial meeting, we address what is probably one of your most pressing questions: “What do I do next?”  We never leave that question unanswered. Because of our extensive family law experience and skilled ability to analyze the relevant law and facts of your unique situation, we will provide you with a checklist of next steps and a plan for how to move forward.

Most clients will say “I feel so much better” after our conversation and that makes us feel good about what we do for clients every day.

I found myself in a custody dispute with my ex.  We were never married and had a child together.  I wanted basic visitation and she would not allow it.  I spent a lot of time reviewing Maryland Law and trying to figure out my rights as a father and how the case would be treated in court. After many hours of research, I was confused, lost and an emotional wreck.

The best thing I did was call Brian.  After my first visit to his office, I had a very clear understanding of how my case would unfold and he laid out a very clear path forward.  After leaving his office, I felt as though 90% of the weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. Brian was a very strong representative who clearly cared about the outcome of my case. I cannot say enough about his knowledge and responsiveness to my situation.

It was a long and challenging process but well worth it in the end. I have an amazing relationship with my daughter and over the years have created many wonderful memories with her.  I can honestly say I owe it all to Brian and his team.  I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of legal advice concerning family law.
